A popular sport amongst athletes and bookworms alike in London is the new sport called ChessBoxing. The idea here is that the individuals have to push themselves mentally and physically and at the same time. The participants undergo a strenuous physical round of fighting, and then immediately line-up against their competitor to engage in a game of chess.
Imagine competing in a round of boxing, physically exhausted, only to pursue a mind numbing game of chess immediately after. This is the self-proclaimed ‘ultimate experience.’
While the game sounds self-explanatory, the experience is definitely not.
Having the appropriate bike is essential for the best ride. Here is a look at a few types of bikes and their function.
1) Touring Bikes: A comfortable bike that can carry luggage and provide a comfortable ride is perfect for those that want to travel great distances. Also providing many gear functions, these bike types can provide the correct gear functions for heavier rides. Though, they are a bit slower.
2) Mountain Bikes: These rugged type of bikes are designed to be versatile, agile, and strong. They are built to withstand the rugged terrain with ease. The tires on this design is thick and the seating is cushioned to absorb the impacts while cycling. The cons of this bike is that the thick tires make for a harder ride when biking long distances and the bike is also heavier.
3) Road Bikes: These bikes are similar to Touring bikes, but are less comfortable. They are designed to help the rider achieve higher speeds with the light frames and high-pressure tires. Road bikes are ideally the fastest bikes made.
There are other types of bikes that should make the list, however most these are hybrid design or goofy.
Basically, in the wonderful world of cycling there are 3 main types: on-road, off-road and stunt. Within these categories there are multiple subcategories. For example, on-road cycling , which is the most popular, consists of recreational (cycling over long distances), utility (transportation, not for sport) and racing (sport). The tires, gears, weight and durability of these bikes are especially different from off-road and stunt. Even the tires can differ between category and subcategory. Cycling truly is a unique sport offering variations to fit anyone’s desires and wants.
For a person desiring a more rugged experience; cycling can fit that need. Off-road cycling is mainly dominated by mountain biking, but within mountain biking there are many more subcategories. Some of these include downhill, free-ride, cross-country, etc. Again, there are many equipment variations within off-road biking that ensures success for those participating. Different tires, metal alloy and sizes of bikes are just a few differences within mountain biking.
Stunt biking is a category that often gets overlooked. But, it is one category that is consistently growing. Again, stunt biking consists of different equipment geared for the specifications for the rider and type of stunts. Stunt biking is also most known for BMX biking and received notoriety in the 90’s.
The wonderful world of biking can be enjoyed by anyone. Even those looking for a relaxing sport or athletic drive can fulfill their desire. Try it out and engage in a sport that truly can offer anything.

The NHL playoffs are gritty, dirty, down-right nasty and long. During this time, the players care less about personal appearrance and more about advancing to the next round. Personal hygene takes a back seat to the tenacious and furious play of determination–determination to win the Lord’s Stanley Cup.
This lack of personal hygene is most evident on the face of the players. As soon as the players suit-up for game one, they abandon all razors and shaving. This abandonement results in mostly thick and over-grown beards–usually after only a few games. Even the pretty boys of the game are seen on and off the ice sporting as much of a beard as they can.
To show support for this hockey trend, the NHL is helping the fans get involved with a beard-a-thon website. Simply, fans are encouraged to grow their facial hair in support of a personal charity and a favorite team. As of now, The St. Louis Blues have raised the most money. There are also over 500 fans participating.
Do the right thing–grow a beard!
(The beard-a-thon is technically not closed to women)
The ASP World our is also celebrating the leap day in Australia with a day of non-action as they look to hold the semi and quater-final matchups. They claim that the swells are weak and winds are getting in the way. There will possibly be an early start tomorrow as the crew accesses the weather. In any event, you can imagine that the surfers are enjoying a day of non-competition either relaxing, living it up or practicing for their next event.
Tomorrow’s events look like this:
UPCOMING QUIKSILVER PRO GOLD COAST QUARTERFINAL MATCH-UPS:
QF 1: Adriano De Souza (BRA) vs. Owen Wright (AUS) QF 2: Kelly Slater (USA) vs. Josh Kerr (AUS) QF 3: Jordy Smith (ZAF) vs. Joel Parkinson (AUS) QF 4: Taj Burrow (AUS) vs. Adrian Buchan (AUS)
UPCOMING ROXY PRO GOLD COAST SEMIFINALS MATCH-UPS:

Currently, the ASP World Tour is in full effect. The Who’s Who in surfing is in full swing competing to take center stage. Located in Queensland/Australia, surfers have already begun catching the waves and riding towards the number one spot. And, among the women and men, Kelly Slater is currently on top (Again!) of the leader boards. This is no mild accomplishment. With 11 titles under his belt, a 12 in ’12 seems very likely. Also, the reigning champion has just turned 40 years old–in any sport, this can be considered ‘past prime,’ but Slater remains the best at turning heads and winning awards. The best of luck for all that are competing.
